Band Night

Our band night raised £121

We held our band night at Buff Club Glasgow (free venue hire) which only provided us with a basic PA system. This posed many problems as we had to find the cheapest organisation to rent microphones from. After much confusion and difficulty in communication with some acts regarding what equipment was required we finally arranged to pick up 4 mic stands, 3 microphones (SM58, SM57 and Beta52) and 3 XLR cables for £34. We rented this equipment from Audio CP Glasgow which is located in the Southside of Glasgow - never venture to the south side without first working out where you are going. Myself, Sam H and Gemma L finally reached the warehouse after an hour of subways and walking in circles. The equipment fit into one compact bag.

High spirits after finally collecting the equipment

The final push to get to Buff Club

We arranged to arrive at Buff Club at 17:00 to start sound checks for the acts however we didn't arrive until 17:45. The bands hadn't showed face so this played in our favour. Craig and _____ helped us out with all the technical aspects of the night.

The acts were found through mutual friends, facebook searches for local artists and posts on facebook asking if any artists would be interested in being involved. We originally had Holly Drummond and The Whisky Band as acts but they had to pull out due to family issues/illness. Andrew Murphy was confirmed the day before and we received a call from Calum O'Connor enquiring about the night on the day.

Massive thank you to

and

Return to the Sun (donated any money earned from selling their album to the project)

Turn out to our event was poor and could have been improved with more advertisement and commitment from volunteers to spread the word and get friends to the event.

Overall it was a really good night with all acts performing brilliantly and those there having a good night! Ashley O'meara managed to use her charm without realising and get a mention on Return to the Suns Facebook page. Everyone needs an O'meara on their team!

Cocktail Night

On Tuesday 11 March I held my first personal fundraising event. The event was a cocktail night at my flat in which two friends of mine and I prepared five cocktails, cakes and biscuits for the guests. Guests donated £10 on arrival and the night managed to raise £190.

We managed to get litres of Smirnoff Vodka for £11.70 by purchasing them when Tesco Stores were running offers on spirits, using a voucher code found on studentbeans.com and using coupons gained from club card points. All other alcohol was purchased from B&M stores and Tesco.

Can Collecting

The groups second fundraiser was to go can collecting during the Six Nations. We ended up going round pubs in the West End of Glasgow on Sunday 9 March instead. Four of us took part in this (Annabella, Hamish, Myself and Gemma L) and only raised £8.10. On reflection we should have focused on venues that were in the city centre as most pubs in the West End are not willing for you to can collect on their premises.

However, we did manage to gain some great raffles prizes for the pub quiz we were planning: £20 voucher for Bikram Yoga, 3 free meals for Taco Mazama and a voucher for Number 16 Restaurant.

Thank you to the following organisations!

First Group Fundraiser (Bake Sale)

The group held their first bake sale on Wednesday 29 January. The stall was set up within the University of Glasgow campus outside the engineering building and next the Stevenson building (the university gym). We managed to raise £156! This was thanks to a group effort from everyone encouraging passers by to get involved in discussion about our project and therefore receiving donations towards our cause. The gym staff and delivery drivers were the biggest donators!

Everyone contributed to the stand (oreo truffles and lemon drizzle cupcakes were favourites) and the event was publicised on Facebook.
